On January 25, Alabama Interfaith Power & Light's national affiliate announced National Interfaith Power & Light Suspends Operations; Interfaith Power & Light Affiliate Network Continues to Lead and Advance Mission:
“After much careful deliberation, the board of Interfaith Power & Light (IPL) National has made the difficult decision to suspend its central office’s operations, effective January 17, 2025. To be clear, the work of the state affiliates, each its own independent entity, continues unabated, and it is from these groups that much of the IPL network’s prodigious output has come over the years, and will continue to emerge."
Our hearts and prayers go out to National IPL in these challenging times. Alabama Interfaith Power & Light (ALIPL) is both a chapter of National IPL and a program of The People's Justice Council (PJC). We wish to emphasize that ALIPL's operations are not impeded by this unfortunate situation. ALIPL is continuing in its mission "to be faithful stewards of Creation by responding to climate change through the promotion of environmental justice, energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy from a faith perspective."
"To be clear, the work of the state affiliates, each its own independent entity, continues unabated, and it is from these groups that much of the IPL network’s prodigious output has come over the years, and will continue to emerge."
As a program of PJC, ALIPL is engaging houses of faith in Alabama and beyond through our From Resilience to Restoration initiative and specific programs such as WERiSE -- Weatherize Every Residence in the South East. We are actively engaging Alabama's underserved and frontline communities in 2025, starting with a planned listening session in Uniontown Feb. 20.
"I have been proud to be affiliated with National IPL since coming aboard shortly after ALIPL's inception," says ALIPL Program and Policy Director Kyle Crider. "It has been an honor and pleasure to meet many of the national staff, both in their visits to Alabama and at annual gatherings in Washington DC. We will carry your banner forward in Alabama and in our work throughout the Gulf South and beyond."
"Our fight continues because the struggle continues, and our service continues" ~ALIPL Executive Director Rev. Michael Malcom
